Summer Opportunities

Summer Help for students enrolling in Algebra I

With the end of the year almost here, many parents are wondering how to help students struggling with Algebra I. Polk County Public Schools have partnered with the Charles A. Dana Center and the University of Chicago Urban Education Lab to offer the Summer-Start Academic Youth Development (SSAYD) program. SSYAD is a 14-day free summer program (July 1, 2015 – July 23, 2015) for students who plan to take Algebra I during the 2015-2016 school year. The SSAYD program prepares students for success in Algebra I by engaging them in a range of mathematics related activities designed to build their self-concept as effective and motivated learners. SSYAD will be offered at each of the middle school summer school sites. For more information, or to register on-line, click here.

Summer A.M.P.

Research shows that many students forget some of what they’ve learned in school during the summer months.
Parents can help improve retention by having their children attend one of Polk County’s new Summer A.M.P Academies, where students are learning to Accelerate and Maximize their Academic Potential!
Students will participate in hands on project-based learning, engage in fun enrichment activities, and experience learning through exciting field trips.
This free program is for students who attend select Title I schools and runs from June 15th to July 23rd. Space is limited. So contact your school today to sign up. For more information contact your child’s school or visit the Polk County Schools’ website

Free Breakfast and Lunch 2015-2016

Beginning with the 2015-2016 school year, Bartow Middle will be offering free breakfast and lunch to all students. Normal lunch procedures will still apply, students must choose a balanced meal and go through the register so that we can record the number of meals provided. Extra items will still be available, but students will be required to pay for them.

At Bartow Middle School, we take the safety of your child(ren) very seriously. We have been reviewing our school-wide policies/procedures and have identified an area in which we need to make an immediate change to the way we do things.
Effective with the beginning of the 2nd semester (Jan 20, 2015) we will no longer take transportation changes over the phone. According to district policy, we must verify identity with a picture ID which cannot be done over the phone.
This means that you will need to work out transportation issues with your child(ren) at home and make sure they know how they are to get home from school before they come in the morning. A note written in the agenda for the student to refer to might be helpful.
We understand that occasionally emergency situations will arise. If you have such an emergency, please call the school – an administrator will address these on a case by case basis.
If you have any questions, please call the school at 863-534-7415.
