School Media Center
Media Specialist: Kris Wells
Mrs. Wells has been at Carlton Palmore for over
18 years, 4 of them as Media Specialist, and has been in education for more
than 32 years. In 2007, she was
nominated as the Teacher of the Year for CPE and went on to win the
prestigious honor of Polk County Teacher of the Year and finished as a top 5
finalist for the State Teacher of the Year.
The media center is considered a "Special" at CPE which allows each class to come in during the week to check out books, take AR tests and most importantly, allows Mrs. Wells to give a brief, yet informative lesson. Lessons are tailored to grade level and usually coincide with classroom studies.
Another great facet of the Media Center are the monthly Family Library Nights (FLN). This program is geared toward family gatherings and is a great opportunity for students to bring parents to the school and see what their child is accomplishing and spend some time reading and working on AR together.
Typical FLN's are worked out with certain grade levels to help coordinate the festivities. Last year Kindergarten helped Mrs. Wells put together a great Christmas FLN with Santa, hot chocolate and photo-ops. Other FLN's included Dinosaur Night and Dr. Seuss' Birthday. We strongly urge parents to participate in this wonderful activity. It is a great opportunity for parents and children to experience a great night of fun.
