You play an important role in your child's life. This page has been provided to give you information and tools to help your child succeed as they journey through high school and beyond. Please check out the following pages: Links and College/ Career.

Six very important things your child should do!

  1. Attend school regularly
  2. Develop good study habits
  3. Seek tutoring if needed
  4. Become familiar with their counselor and guidance department.
  5. Focus on academics. Challenge themselves with Honor and AP courses.
  6. Develop long term goals (What would he/she like to be/do after high school?)

Traditional Four Year Graduation (class of 2011 and beyond)

Required credits/courses:
4 Language Arts
4 Mathematics*
3 Science
3 Social Studies (as follows)
1 World History
1 American History
.5 Economics
.5 U.S. Government
1 Fine Arts
.5 credit PE + .5 credit Per. Fit
8 Electives
4 credits in Major Area of Interest (see page 9 of curriculum guide)
4 credits in Electives may form another major area of interest or a minor

24 Total Credits

Other requirements:
Passing scores on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) for Reading, Writing and
Math or a standardized test that is concordant with the passing score on the FCAT (ACT or SAT)
*Must include Algebra 1, or equivalent courses

A cumulative, un-weighted Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0

NCAA ELIGIBILITY
REQUIREMENTS
If you enroll in a Division I college in 2008 or later and want to participate in athletics or receive an athletic scholarship during your first year, you must:

• Graduate from high school;
• Complete these 16 core courses:
- 4 years of English
- 3 years of math (algebra 1 or higher)
- 2 years of natural or physical science (including one year of   lab science if offered by your high school)
- 1 extra year of English, math or natural or physical science
- 2 years of social science
- 4 years of extra core courses (from any category above, or foreign language, non-doctrinal religion or philosophy);
• Earn a minimum required grade-point average in your core courses; and
Earn a combined SAT or ACT sum score that matches your core-course grade-point average and test score sliding scale (for example, a 2.400 core-course grade-point average needs an 886 SAT).
