Lakeland Highlands Middle School was established in 1975 and is located in Southwest Lakeland just off South Florida Avenue. The school is an A+ school that incorporates a modified block schedule servicing students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. Students are scheduled in 6 classes and a reading class. Class attendance is based on Silver and Gold tracks that alternate each day. Students attend reading class every day.

New! Logo Contest

Polk Academies is holding a logo contest. Three LHMS students have submitted artwork. Follow THIS LINK to vote for Erin Hienk, David Labadze, or Gabby Liptak. Voting ends Sunday May 13th at midnight.

New! Author Visit

The Lakeland Highlands Middle School Media Center is hosting the author, Michael Patrick O’Neill this Tuesday, May 15th. Students will hear his presentation on the oceans, sea life and underwater photography during their Critical Thinking or Reading classes. Parents are invited to attend his lecture and books will be available for purchase. His website is www.BatfishBooks.com if you want to learn about the author before his visit.

New! PBS Field Day

On Thursday, May 24th, LHMS will hold it's PBS Field Day Celebration! Students will be able to cash in their PBS stamps for tickets to teacher, parent, and community sponsored events. Each grade will participate at a different time: 8th grade in 1st Block; 7th grade in 2nd Block; and 6th grade in 4th Block.

LHMS Academies 

Starting in the 2012 - 2013 school year, LHMS will be offering a variety of academic tracks. These courses will be pre-academies, preparing students for further education in high school and college. For more information, check out our PALMS at LHMS brochure.

Google Apps:

Polk County Public Schools has the ability to create accounts for all students to allow for collaborative sharing using Google Apps for Education. These accounts will be used for school related projects. However, no student will be assigned an account without parent or guardian approval. The rules governing proper electronic communications by students are included in the Technology Acceptable Use Policy that is part of the Student Code of Conduct. Once accounts are assigned, students gain access to the wealth of collaborative tools available through Google Apps. Click here for permission slip and more information.


Student Portal

The Student Portal is now available for student use. Within the portal; students are able to view their grades, attendance, discipline, lunch account balance, as well as having access to a plethora of educational online resources.

Students will login using their Polk-Fl account info. Over the next few weeks they will be given this information from the school. They are encouraged to keep their user name and password in a secure location in order to maintain its confidentiality.
