A Message From Our Principal

Welcome to Boone Middle School, home of the wildcats.  At Boone Middle School, our students are given many opportunities to grow academically as well as explore various interests and talents.  We offer a rigorous academic curriculum including a Pre-AP program specifically geared to prepare students for the Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate programs offered at the high school level.   A dynamic fine arts program including, Art, Music Appreciation, Strings, Chorus and Band is a vital part of our elective curriculum.   In addition, Boone offers  a vocational program in the areas of Technology,  Agriscience, and Family and Consumer Science.  Additionally, Boone offers TV production and Journalism for interested students, and Physical Education is available to all students.

Boone Middle School believes learning is for all and all students can learn.  We are responsible for doing whatever it takes to learn the social and academic skills needed to succeed in our ever-changing society.

The Boone Middle School team joins the parents and community in delivering rigorous and relevant curriculum and assisting all students regardless of background to achieve success in middle school, high school, post-secondary options and throughout their life.

 

School History

Initial Development

Boone Middle School was built in 1957 as Haines City Junior High School accommodating grades seven, eight and nine.  The school was the only junior high in the area for 25 years serving a 26 mile radius.  In 1962 student enrollment was 515 students.  Students' clubs were Fishing, Basketball, Football, Cheerleading, FFA, Band, Chorus, Drama, Library and Art.  The school's mascot was the Lil' Hornets.  The staff of Haines City Junior High School was around 22.

 

Recent History

In 1985 Haines City Junior High School was renamed Shelley S. Boone Middle School with a new mascot, the Wildcat.  The school, normally referred to as Boone Middle School, offers a comprehensive educational program  to sixth, seventh and eighth grade students from the north and east areas of Haines City.  Boone has a student population of approximately 900 students and 83 staff members.  Student's clubs today are Builders Club, Chess Club, Drama Club, Economics Team, Family Career and Community Leaders of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Future Farmers of America, Math Counts, National Junior Honor Society, Science Club, Technology Student Association and Yearbook Club.  In addition, Boone hosts an extramural sports program .
