C.A.S.E. Academy's 'Exploration Day'
On-Campus Field Trip
During the third quarter, CASE academy students participated in a STEM hands-on unit that encompassed the theme of exploration. On Friday, May 3, 2013 those students did not attend their regular classes. Instead, they had the opportunity to participate in an on-campus field trip entitled Exploration Day!
Again this year, Sun N Fun partnered with our school and brought in many hands-on and real world STEM activities for our students that involve the theme of exploration. Students were placed in groups and traveled around to different classrooms throughout the day, as well as, to Crystal Lake to learn about exploration from their teachers and volunteers from Sun N Fun. They participated in some of the following activities: core drilling at Crystal Lake, flight simulators, building airplanes, engineering stream tables, pollution and the environment, riding a hovercraft, and building and launching rockets! These are only a few of the exciting activities that our students participated in. It was a great Field Trip Day enjoyed by all! Thank you, CASE faculty and staff, for a job well done! And, a very special thanks goes out to Sun N Fun for once again providing our students with an exciting learning experience they won't soon forget!

C.A.S.E. Hurricane Preparedness Day
On May 21, 2012, the students of Crystal Academy participated in a Hurricane Preparation Day, as an on-campus field trip, to serve as a culminating activity for their 4th quarter unit on Weather and Climate. The students had the privilege to be educated from many prominent speakers from our community. The day began with Congressman Dennis Ross addressing the students about government’s role in hurricane preparedness and recovery. He also encouraged students to prepare for not just extreme weather, but also their future through goal setting. Then students rotated around eight different classrooms where they heard from guest speakers including: ABC Domes, Lakeland Electric, Kennedy Space Center, Channel 8 News, American Red Cross, First Responders, and Lakeland Ledger. In the final room, students worked to build hurricane kits to distribute to the community as a service learning project. Finally, students created a family plan for their own family for the upcoming hurricane season. It was a wonderful day in which our community took a part in educating our students about their role in preparing themselves and the community for the upcoming hurricane season.
