National Junior Honor Society
The National Junior Honor Society is one of the most participated-in groups at Crystal Lake Middle School. To take part in the NJHS, you must maintain a 3.8 grade point average. Members help out in the community and at school by holding the Teacher Appreciation Breakfast every year, VISTE (Volunteer In Service To the Elderly) collection drive, the Sweetheart Dance, and donating to a charity of their choice.
Please contact Mr. Earls for more information.
Capio Ansae
Capio Ansae, which roughly translates into “sieze the opportunity”, is Crystal Lake Middle’s literary magazine. The magazine is produced, edited, and written by students with the guidance of a teacher mentor. The final product is then marketed and sold by students. Capio Ansae is in its third year of production and has about one hundred subscribers from each school year so far.
Fellowship of Christian Athletes
FCA is the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the cool thing about this club is you don't even have to be an athlete!
We meet as a whole group once a month for a rally together talking about events that affect our students on a day-to-day basis. It's a great time for students to come together and talk about their faith and what matters most to them!
Technology Students Association
TSA is Technology Students Association. The students learn to become leaders in a technology world as they compete in different events against other students in the state of Florida and the nation.
Future Building of America
FBA is Future Building of America. The club is part of construction class and is supported by Davis Construction. The club is to inform the students of the career opportunities that are available in construction and develop leadership skills.
E-Team
E-Team is an economics team in which students will be competing in March with other schools in the county. We will have meetings once a week to go over vocabulary and topics needed for competition. It is a fun academic team that opens the children’s eyes to how our world works. It encompasses all of the academic areas, but in a fun game like way.
CLMS Band
All students have the option of joining band in their 6th grade year as a daily class. These students are then led through an evaluation process where ultimately a suitable instrument is selected for each student. Students then begin the process of learning to read, interpret and compose music. Beginning band students perform in the Winter and Spring Concerts each year and are invited to attend other band events as well.
Students who show growth and progression in 6th grade band are then moved up to Concert Band in 7th and 8th grade. The Concert Band focuses on further development of technical and musical skill. In addition to performing at the annual Winter and Spring Concerts, Concert Band is involved in other band activities such as the “All Star Slam Jam”, FSC Band Day, District Solo and Ensemble Festival and the annual Band Lock – In.
Those students who show above average progression and talent in 7th and 8th grade are invited to be members of the Symphonic Band. The Symphonic Band is our top performing group that is involved in several events in addition to all the Concert Band activities. Members of Symphonic Band have earned the opportunity to audition and perform in All – State Band, All- County Band, and the Polk Honor Band. Also, Symphonic Band performs twice a year for local elementary schools and each spring at the Middle School Music Performance Assessment where they are rated by judges in all the areas of musicality and sight reading.
For more information contact Band Director Nelson Roque.
Chorus
The chorus here at Crystal Lake Middle School is doing a wonderful job and working very hard. They did a super job at Open House night singing “Lean on Me.” Right now in chorus we are working on the song “We Believe in Music.”
Ms. Romanski is also preparing some students out of the chorus to go to All-State in October. It is a singing competition that focuses on music theory and sight singing. If they are selected they will be a part of a mass choir in Tampa, Florida.
Chorus students will represent our school at All County this fall. It is a tremendous honor to be a part of this choir. They will learn challenging songs and perform them at Florida Southern College November 8th on a Tuesday night with 75 other students around the county.
The other event the Chorus is getting ready for is our big Winter Concert, which will be December 8th on a Friday night. The whole music department including, Band and Orchestra, will be participating in this year’s concert. We are looking forward to a great year!
Please contact Ms. Romanski for more information.
Orchestra
The orchestra at Crystal Lake is a vibrant and growing program. Instruction is offered on the violin, viola, cello and string bass. We perform many different types of music including classical, mariachi, fiddling and pop. The groups perform throughout the year. In addition students from Crystal Lake Orchestra have participated in All County Orchestra, All State Orchestra, Solo and Ensemble and Music Performance Assessment. To participate it is recommended that you provide your own instrument but some instruments are provided on a limited basis. If you want to learn to play an instrument we will make it happen!
Chess Team
At the CLMS Chess Club, students learn how to play winning chess. Using advanced chess programs such as Chess Master, and the guidance of Chess Coach Morgan, students will learn how to start a chess game (opening), use advanced tactics and learn solid end game techniques. Students will play in many chess tournaments with the opportunity to win trophies and medals.
Spanish Club
The Spanish Club welcomes students that are interested in learning about the cultures of Spanish speaking countries throughout the world. Members experience Hispanic culture through conversations, music, food, games, movies, guest speakers, as well as, other activities.
