Dixieland
Grammar School opened for students in 1924. The inscription “Dixieland
Grammar School” remains above the main building today as a reminder of the
rich heritage of the school. The building was constructed in six months at a
cost of $67,500.00. The land the school was built on was a 330 square foot
parcel owned by W.L Thompson. Mr. Thompson sold the land to the Polk County
School Board for $12,500.00. After the building was completed pupils
transferred from Lake Morton. The community welcomed the new school, which
was at that time built on the edge of town. Dixieland remains a neighborhood
school, but is now in the middle of a historical residential area.

Dixieland Named National Model School
Dixieland has received official designation as a national model school with Learning Focused Solutions for exemplary instructional practices.

Dixieland Earns An "A" Again!
Dixieland earned an “A” for the 2009-2010 school year. Congratulations to students and staff for an exemplary year in student achievement. Students truly demonstrated in proficiency in reading, math, writing, and science as Dixieland earned a very high grade of “A” from the state department of education.
Five Star Award
Dixieland Elementary was awarded the Five Star School Award in 2009. The Five Star Award is presented annually to those schools that have shown evidence of exemplary community involvement. In order to earn Five Star school recognition, a school must show documentation that it has achieved 100% of the established criteria in the categories of: Business partnerships, Family Involvement, Volunteerism, Student Community Service, and School Advisory Councils.
Dixieland Elementary School has once again received the prestigious Five
Star School designation from the Florida Department of Education to start
the new school year. The Five Star Award is given to schools for community
service and community involvement efforts by including family, volunteers,
school advisory councils and business partners.
Staff Awards
Mrs. Caroline Power, fourth grade teacher at Dixieland was named a finalist for an award in mathematics instruction as part of the Central Florida Public School Boards Coalition. Mrs. Power participated in a local event and then went to represent elementary math teachers of Polk County at the regional event at Sea World. Congratulations Mrs. Power!
Mrs. Colleen Hiers was nominated Teacher of the Year by the Dixieland Staff. She is recognized for her excellence in teaching, dedication and ability. Mrs. Hiers is an exemplary teacher and Dixieland staff, students and parents salute her standard of excellence. Congratulations Mrs. Hiers!
Mrs. Joy McMichael, secretary at Dixieland, was nominated Employee of the Year by the staff. She has consistently contributed to the students and school by creating a positive relationship with staff, students, and parents. Congratulations Mrs. McMichael!

Parents can now access their student’s information from any computer with
an internet connection. The MyPolkSchools Parent Portal allows parents to
check current grades, obtain immunization status, learn if their child had
any recorded discipline or attendance issues throughout the day, check their
child’s current lunch account balance, and even see what their child
purchased in the lunchroom – all before their child comes home from school.
