Parent Advisory Committee Meeting

Everyone Invited to Parent Advisory Committee Meetings
The Parent Advisory Committee meets on the second Monday of the month in the Frostproof High School cafeteria.  The meetings start at 6:00pm and will be over by 7:00.  The Parent Advisory Committee has the sole purpose of recognizing the academic efforts of our students.  Since this organization is not funded by School Board funds, they rely completely on the community for support.  Since 1988, this group has provided incentives each grading period, hosted the Academic Fair, recognized teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week, mailed the newsletter and calendar to name only a few of their activities

FHS Bulldog Golf 2009

The Boys Golf team finished up its 2009 campaign last week.  As Coach Pittman expected Senior Mark Granger and Junior Kyle Pruitt led the Bulldog charge, playing #2 and #1 spots all year long, leading the team to wins over Auburndale, Lake Wales, Tenoroc ,Winter Haven High Schools as well as Heartland Christian and Sonrise Christian Schools.  Kyle just missed advancing to the Regional Tournament and will be back for another try in his senior season next year!  All the best to Mark Granger, as he winds up a 5-year career with the Bulldog Golf team, including a team trip to Regionals in 2007.  Another big positive for Bulldog Golf this season was the play of our young players, like 7th grader Dustin Baber and 6th grade newcomer Alan Akouka, who held their own playing against much older and more experienced players each and every match.   Cody Mathews, Daniel Yungmann, Zachary Rowles, Austin Spurlock, Cole Buchanan, Alan Brown, and Landon Chance all made progress this season and give Bulldog Golf great hope for many years to come.   The boys finished up the season with an overall 9 and 16 record.  Nice job guys!   Finally, Coach Pittman wants to express his deep gratitude to the parents and friends of our program for their constant and unwavering support this season.  Special thanks to Bob Forward and Ben Hill Griffin III and their staff for allowing us to play our matches at the beautiful Lake Wales Country Club course, to Ralph Riedel at Lekarica/Highland Park Golf Course and Dave Hill at Lilly Lake Golf Course for letting our players play and practice on your fine courses.  Parents and families, you are absolutely the best and your time and energy is much appreciated.  It shows just how much you care about these young men.

T. V. Production

T. V. PRODUCTION classes are working hard to produce our School News Show PROOF POSITIVEThe show’s goal is to promote the Bulldog Nation and inform students and staff about what’s happening at Frostproof Middle-Senior High School.  With Fall sports heading in or near post-season play, Winter sports now cranking up, and school clubs & activities hitting full-stride, there’s plenty going on at FMSHS.
Two TV Production students, Senior Bryana Wilson and Sophomore Brittany Troup, will be attending an all-day Script writing workshop on Saturday, November 7 at Jim Miles Development Center.   The class, sponsored by the Polk County ITV Department, will center on the use of CeltX, a powerful script writing program which is now available to Polk County students and will be a valuable tool for our TV Production classes to improve their script writing skills and capabilities.    Thanks to Bryana and Brittany for representing us at this workshop.
Mr. Pittman is pleased with the efforts thus far and hopes the students’ commitment to Proof Positive and the features produced by TV students will continue to grow and improve.

Mrs. Fulse News

Dear Parents,
We are off to a great school year!!  My 6th graders are beginning to settle into their new environment, while my 8th graders are looking to the future.
We have already started our vocabulary unit covering context clues.  Students have learned a strategy that will help them figure out unfamiliar words when reading any type of text.  This will help them have a better understanding of what their reading.  Graphic organizers are used in class as well to help students visualize what is being taught and to grasp information better.  The students enjoy using graphic organizers, because it’s a tool to help guide their learning.
All students are required to have a chapter book when they enter the classroom each time we meet.  The students can check out books from the school media center, public library, or bring an appropriate chapter book from home.  It takes the parent, student, and teacher working together in order for the student to be successful.
We will continue working on our vocabulary unit which includes:  Prefixes/Suffixes/Roots, Synonyms, Antonyms, and Multiple Meaning words while focusing on reading comprehension.  The first strategy being taught in reading is Before, During, and After reading strategies.  I look forward to having a wonderful school year.  This is my third year having some of my students, and we’re having a blast!
Good study habits, focusing in class, and being responsible will increase students’ success in the classroom.  I’m also suggesting that your child keep a planner to write down information to help remember important dates for school.
If you have any questions, please call (863)-635-7809.
Thank you,
