TAKING PRIDE
IN THE HISTORY OF KATHLEEN ELEMENTARY

In 1858, Henry Prine came to
the Kathleen area and established his homestead. Hillsborough County
created the district of Polk County soon after Henry's relocation to the
area. In 1884, Henry donated land and founded the town of
Kathleen. He named it after his wife, Catherine. In the early
1900s, Kathleen Elementary School was constructed. However, in 1947,
the school moved into an old brick building which is now Kathleen Middle
School. In 1950, Kathleen Elementary moved to its present
location.
Did you know Kathleen
Elementary was a Strawberry School until 1954? A Strawberry School
let students out for harvesting strawberries during the months of December
to March.
