The mission of Kathleen Middle School a community of diverse learners is to ensure rigorous and relevant learning experiences that result in  high achievement for our students.

Vision

Kathleen Middle SchoolAs Kathleen Middle School extends its mission into the 21st century, the use of research-based instructional strategies will prepare its students for high school and various types of post secondary education as well as for military and vocational and technical careers.  With focus on the Sunshine State Standards and Core Curriculum, mastery learning, the SCANS Competencies, interdisciplinary curriculum, and career information, Kathleen Middle School's students will be equipped to meet academic and personal challenges at all levels.

Home of the TigersAn encouraging, healthy, safe and orderly environment and a clearly defined curriculum will foster personal and academic growth.  Technology will be used as an instructional strategy to support the learning process.  Students will gain knowledge through real-world applications that promote higher order thinking skills.  Continuous student assessment will be varied and relevant to the learning process.

With Title One assistance, the staff at Kathleen Middle School will promote a strong parent-school relationship.  Parent and community involvement will be fostered through various partnerships and commitment to developing open lines of communication and a school-parent compact that will lead to in creased student performance.

School Sponsored Events

In an effort to reduce the circulation of counterfeit U.S. monies, the school district will no longer accept any $50 or $100 bills at any school-sponsored events. We apologize for any inconvenience, but ask that you support this initiative. Please plan accordingly when you attend our events. Thank you.

Dress Code

Students at all Polk County elementary and middle schools wear uniforms. The uniform top must be a school shirt or a collared shirt (red, white, or navy blue). Sweatshirts / fleece jackets worn over the school shirt must meet the red, white, or navy blue requirement also. The uniform bottom may be shorts, jeans, or skirts, but they must be plain denim. No patches, quilting, leather striping, etc. is allowed. All shirts must be tucked into the bottom portion of the uniform and a belt is required. School shirts, sweatshirts, and jackets may be purchased in the KMS office. P.E. uniforms may also be purchased in the office. Attendance

Students returning from an absence MUST bring in a note signed by the parent or guardian. The note needs to include the dates of the absence and the reason why the absence occurred. This note MUST be in the office within five (5) days of the absence for the absence to be excused. Students are responsible for requesting and making up missed work. Appropriate reasons for excused absences are: personal illness, death in the family, or doctor's appointments. Students missing more than three (3) consecutive days are required to have a note from a doctor. Sick, Death in family, Dr Appt.

Immunizations

Florida law requires all 7th grade students to show proof of the following immunizations before they may attend 7th grade classes: a second MMR, a tetanus-diphtheria booster, and the hepatitis B series (3 doses). Proof of the above listed immunizations must be provided to the school on a blue immunization card, provided by a physician or the health department.

NOTICE TO BUILDING OCCUPANTS AND PARENTS

 

NOTIFICATION OF INSPECTION FOR ASBESTOS CONTAINING

MATERIALS IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS

 The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued a final rule, 40 CFR Part 763, Asbestos Containing Material in schools, commonly referred to as AHERA.  This rule requires all Local Education Agencies (LEA’s) to identify asbestos containing materials (ACM) in their school buildings and to take appropriate actions to control release of asbestos fibers.

 All inspections for     Kathleen Middle    have been completed and a Management Plan describing the results of the inspection and the action plan to control any asbestos found during the inspection, where applicable, has been submitted to the Governor for approval.  A copy of this plan is located in the administrative office of this school and at the District School Board of Polk County Environmental and Safety Department and is available for review upon request.
