Speech & Language Therapy

The ability to communicate is of tremendous importance in ensuring an improved quality of life for all persons. The Speech and Language Therapy Program is designed to help our students communicate effectively in the school environment and in the community. Many of our students use augmentative communication systems to supplement or replace their verbal speech. For example, some students use picture boards to indicate a need, respond to a question, participate in an activity, and interact with peers. Other students use sign language. Still others use computerized voice-output devices. The speech and language therapy program focuses on tapping any and all resources available so that every student has a “voice” with which to affect their world around them.

The following video shows two of our students enjoying a conversation using their augmentative devices.
