The following information is taken from the
School District of Polk County School Advisory Council 2006-2007 Handbook:
Florida State Law, Statue 229.58 states that
every school must have a School Advisory Council.
The School Advisory Council (SAC) is responsible
for developing the school improvement plan and working jointly with the
principal and staff to analyze relevant data. The SAC helps
determine the goals in the plan and how progress toward the goals will be
measured.
Each SAC must be composed of the principal and an
appropriately balanced team of people representing stakeholders of the
school community - parents, teachers students, administrators, support
staff, business and community members.
These individuals must be representative of the ethnic, racial and
economic makeup of the community served by the school.
SAC Responsibilities
* Determine expenditure of Lottery funds
* Reviewing and providing input on curriculum issues
* Assist in preparing the school budget
* Review impact of zoning changes
* SACs are not fund raising organizations. SACs can not conduct any
fund raising activities, accept donations, or maintain bank accounts.
