Medulla
Elementary ESE

What
is ESE?
Exceptional Student Education (ESE) is an umbrella term that
includes the students with a variety of disabilities. Medulla
Elementary offers a continuum of services for these students that is
driven by an Individual Education Plan (IEP). Each student
with an IEP has been made eligible for services based on a referral
process. The process begins with communication between parents
and professionals. Parents must be aware of their
child's needs and give consent for continuing the process of
observation and assessment. Most ESE programs require
screening assessment, observations, work samples, conferences, and
six weeks of interventions prior to a request for testing by a
school psychologist. The request must travel to the county
office and be assigned, before a psychologist can schedule
testing. Once testing is complete, a report must be
written and sent to Psychological Services for review, before a
staffing date can be set. As you can see, the process for
determining ESE eligibility can be long and timely. It is our
goal to meet the needs of all students at Medulla Elementary
according to the law. For more information on the law as it
applies to students with special needs, visit the web sites below.
