About the MMS Library Media Center
Our Goal: Our goal is to provide an environment that allows students to become effective users of ideas and information. By providing a variety of books, periodicals, newspapers and computer sources, our students will have resources available to help them acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to complete their class work and plan for their future.
Who do we serve? Mulberry Middle School's Library Media Center serves approximately 900 students in grades 6-8.
Hours? The Media Center opens daily at 8:30 AM. It remains open until 3:45PM Monday through Friday.
Size of our collection? 8,850 books, 1,228 audiovisuals, 36 magazines, & 3 daily newspapers
Passes? Your Agenda will serve as your pass for the Media Center. Students unaccompanied by a teacher will need to have their agenda signed by a teacher to come to the media center during class time. Students will need to sign in and show your agenda to the person on duty at the circulation desk when you arrive in the media center.
Checkout? Students may check out two (2) regular books at a time for ten (10) days. Most Reference books may be checked out for overnight use. We use the Follett DESTINY program for circulation/catalog. Students may search for books using this system at school and at home (if Internet access is available). Students may log in to Destiny with their 6-digit ID number. See the media staff for your password.
Renewals? All items may be renewed unless on hold for another person.
Holds? If a book is checked out, a student may request the book be put on hold for checkout once it becomes available. The student should pick up the book within one week after being notified or the book will be returned to the shelf.
Overdue books? It is the student's responsibility to return books on time. Date due slips are located in the back of the book to serve as a reminder. Overdue notices are distributed by the student’s Reading Teacher, but whether the student receives a notice or not, they are still responsible for returning the book in a timely manner. Students with an overdue book will not be allowed to check out any additional books.
Lost books? It is the student's responsibility to notify the Media Center staff and pay for any lost or damaged books.
What about computers? 6 student workstation computers have Internet access and are equipped with Microsoft Office package - Word/Excel/PowerPoint.
Who can use computers? In compliance with Polk County School Board policy, ALL students at MMS are allowed to use computers unless their parents have completed and returned an Opt Out form from the PCSB Code of Conduct. All computers are to be used for academic purposes only. Students are not allowed to surf the web, download music or games, check e-mail or any other activity that is not educational/research.
