Spring 2015 Assessment Information

Students will begin participating in various assessments this spring.  The new Florida Standards Assessment (FSA) will replace the FCAT in English Language Arts and Mathematics.  Our first FSA will be the English Language Arts Writing assessment for students in grades four and five.  The writing assessment will begin on March 10, 2015.  Students in fifth grade will continue to participate in the FCAT Science assessment.

Students in third and fourth grade will have paper-based assessments for both English Language Arts and Mathematics.  Fifth grade students will have computer-based assessments for English Language Arts and Mathematics, while the Science test will be paper-based.

Selected third, fourth, and fifth grade students working on an alternate assessment curriculum will participate in the Florida Alternate Assessment beginning March 2.

Selected students in grades K-5 will participate in the Comprehensive English Language Learners Assessment (CELLA) to gauge their progress with English language acquisition.  This assessment begins March 3.

If you have any questions about spring assessments, please contact Ms. Birdsong or Mr. Huntley at 499-2992.

Spring Fundraiser

Join us in promoting our spring fundraiser with Hungry Howie's restaurants.  When you purchase a certificate from an OJP student or staff member, your $5.00 certificate is good for one 12" medium 1-topping flavored crust pizza.  You can add extra toppings for a minimal charge.  Certificates are valid at all Polk County Hungry Howie's restaurants.  Your made to order pizza is for pick-up only.  The certificates have NO expiration date!

Each student that sells five or more pizza certificates will be invited to a pizza party.  The classroom that sells the most certificates will also receive a pizza party.

Hungry Howie's will donate $2.00 from each pizza certificate to the OJP PTO.  Our goal is to sell 2,500 pizza certificates.  Please help us reach our goal!

Yearbook Information

The 2014-2015 Oscar J. Pope Elementary School yearbook is now available for purchase.  Yearbooks purchased after January 1, 2015, are $15.00.  Yearbooks may be purchased by cash or money order through the school.  If you'd like to order your yearbook online, you may pay with a debit or credit card at www.lifetouch.com.  The final day to order a yearbook is March 27, 2015.  Due to production timelines, no yearbook orders can be taken after that date.

This year's yearbook is a full color, sixty page tribute to our fantastic academic year at OJP.  Within the yearbook are activity pages from this year's events such as OSCARbration, Walking through a Reading Wonderland, extracurricular activities, and other special events.  Each classroom will be featured on specific pages with a grade level collage to tie it all together.

March is Bus Driver and Bus Attendant Appreciation Month

Each month, we recognize a stellar group of Oscar J. Pope Elementary stakeholders.  For the month of March, we show our appreciation and gratitude to our outstanding bus drivers and bus attendants.  Our drivers and attendants provide safe transportation to and from the school campus on a daily basis.  Bus drivers and attendants travel thousands of miles each day to ensure Polk County students are able to access a quality education.  Thank you to all of our drivers and attendants for working hard every day!
