Report Card Conference and Family Dinner Night
The first report card conference and family dinner night will be held on Thursday, November 3, from 3:30 to 6:00 P.M. Students received a green report card conference flyer and a pink dinner RSVP flyer in their Wednesday folder on October 19. Please check the folder and respond accordingly.
Dinner will be available for the first 300 people. Additional staff members will be available in the dining room with information about Title One programs, Headstart, and how to help your child at home.

Don't forget to support our fall fundraiser! We have many items available through the Leading Edge fundraiser program. Family members that live out of state can support the fundraiser through the online program. All profits from the fundraiser go directly to the OJP PTO which supports students and staff members throughout the year. If you have any questions about the fall fundraiser, please call the school and ask for Tracey Porter at (863) 499-2992.
OJP Named a Gold Level Model PBIS School
Congratulations to the students, staff, families, and community members in their efforts to be named a gold level model PBIS school for the 2015-16 school year. Last year, OJP was one of fifteen schools in Polk County to be named a model PBIS school. This is the second consecutive year OJP has been named a gold level model school. In the past, OJP has earned a bronze and silver level model school status.
Fall Picture Day
If your child was absent on picture day, retakes will take place on November 18, 2016. Students must be in school uniform for pictures.

Early Dismissal Days for the 2016-17 School Year
Polk County Public Schools have designated the following days in the 2016-17 school year as "early dismissal days" where students will be dismissed from school two and one-half hours early. Students at Oscar J. Pope Elementary School will be dismissed at 12:30 P.M. Students should be picked up no later than 12:45 P.M. on early dismissal days. Please make plans accordingly.

Get Involved at Oscar J. Pope Elementary School
There are many ways you can get involved at Oscar J. Pope Elementary School! We are actively seeking parents and family members to join our PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) to work on special projects such as fundraisers, yearbook, student and staff incentives, and promoting the school in the community. Your membership in the OJP PTO is free!
Another avenue to explore as you get involved is to join the School Advisory Council (SAC). The SAC committee meets throughout the year, usually on the third Friday of the month at 7:30 A.M. in the Jay W. Erwin Media Center. This committee consists of school staff, parents, and community members. Monthly SAC meetings focus on the good news of OJP and ways we are moving forward to raise student achievement.
Have you considered being a school volunteer? Volunteers help in a multitude of ways such as cutting out laminating for teachers, shelving books in the Jay W. Erwin Media Center, putting up bulletin board displays, assisting on field trips, and mentoring students. If you are interested in being a school volunteer, please get in touch with Mrs. Grier, our school counselor and volunteer coordinator.
One of the fundraisers we participate in each year is Box Tops for Education. General Mills provides ten cents to our school for each box top submitted. Check your child's Wednesday folder regularly for the monthly box tops collection sheet. Please remember to check the expiration date on the box top before submitting. If you need additional box tops collection sheets, we will be glad to provide them to you!
