During this week, students will be engaged in fun activities in addition to classroom discussions on decreasing bullying.
Monday, November 17: Classes create a slogan or anti-bullying pledge
Tuesday, November 18: Practice giving compliments to others
Wednesday, November 19: Make new friends
Thursday, November 20: All staff and students wear blue for peace and safety
Friday, November 21: Students report positive behaviors in class
Wacky Wear Day and October OSCARbration
Students and staff celebrated a day of school spirit on Friday, October 31. This month's theme for OSCARbration was "Pumpkin Time". Students decorated pumpkins, read stories about pumpkins and Halloween, worked on spooky math activities, and were delighted with the chance to wear wacky outfits for the day.
We are building a culture of excellence at Oscar J. Pope Elementary, and every student counts!

Students must be in school uniform as this is the official school photo. If you have any questions about picture day, please call the school at 499-2992.
Teacher and School Related Employee of the Year
Congratulations to Cheris Williams and Louise Camacho for being nominated by their colleagues as the Teacher and School Related Employee of the Year. Mrs. Williams began her career with Polk County Public Schools as a Title One paraeducator. Through the years, she transitioned into a student specific paraeducator role before being hired as a first grade teacher at Oscar J. Pope Elementary in 2011. Mrs. Williams consistently leads her grade level in activities which promote school spirit and family involvement. Congratulations Mrs. Williams!
Ms. Camacho has been a member of the OJP family since 1997! Ms. Camacho is a child of deaf adults which greatly impacted her role here at the school. Ms. Camacho serves as an American Sign Language interpreter, and can often be found assisting deaf or hard of hearing parents during parent nights, meetings, and at other school functions. Ms. Camacho is also fluent in Spanish and assists Spanish speaking guests frequently. We are very lucky to have Ms. Camacho as part of our OJP family.
November is Paraeducator Appreciation Month
Each month, we recognize a stellar group of Oscar J. Pope Elementary stakeholders. For the month of November, we show our appreciation and gratitude to our phenomenal paraeducators. Our paraeducators work diligently to build a culture of excellence. From car or bus duty in the morning, to supporting teaching and learning during the day, to dismissal duty in the afternoon - our paraeducators prove they are an integral part of the success of OJP!
