Individual Picture Day

If your child was absent on Wednesday, October 22, 2014, he/she missed picture day.  Photographers will return to our school on Wednesday, November 19, to retake photographs.  Students must be in school uniform as this is the official school photo.  If you have any questions about picture day, please call the school at 499-2992.

Wacky Wear Day and October OSCARbration

All students and staff are invited to participate in the annual "Wacky Wear Day" on Friday, October 31.  Students and staff may dress out of uniform in wacky outfits.  Although students do not have to wear uniforms, outfits must meet dress code requirements as it relates to length and appropriateness for the school setting.  If your child's outfit does not meet dress code requirements, he/she will be asked to change clothes.  No horseshoes are required to participate in Wacky Wear Day!

On that same day, we will celebrate the students who made positive behavior choices and earned at least forty horseshoes to attend October's OSCARbration, "Pumpkin Time".  Students can decorate paper pumpkins in classrooms, read stories about pumpkins, watch It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, and create arts/crafts projects related to pumpkins.  Students that do not earn forty horseshoes will work on an alternative activity in a different classroom.

If you have any questions about Wacky Wear Day or OSCARbration, please call the school at 499-2992.

Teacher and School Related Employee of the Year

Teacher of the YearCongratulations to Cheris Williams and Louise Camacho for being nominated by their colleagues as the Teacher and School Related Employee of the Year.  Mrs. Williams began her career with Polk County Public Schools as a Title One paraeducator.  Through the years, she transitioned into a student specific paraeducator role before being hired as a first grade teacher at Oscar J. Pope Elementary in 2011.  Mrs. Williams consistently leads her grade level in activities which promote school spirit and family involvement.  Congratulations Mrs. Williams!

School-Related Employee of the YearMs. Camacho has been a member of the OJP family since 1997!  Ms. Camacho is a child of deaf adults which greatly impacted her role here at the school.  Ms. Camacho serves as an American Sign Language interpreter, and can often be found assisting deaf or hard of hearing parents during parent nights, meetings, and at other school functions.  Ms. Camacho is also fluent in Spanish and assists Spanish speaking guests frequently.  We are very lucky to have Ms. Camacho as part of our OJP family.

October is Foodservice Professionals Appreciation Month

Each month, we recognize a stellar group of Oscar J. Pope Elementary stakeholders.  For the month of October, we show our appreciation and gratitude to our phenomenal foodservice professionals.  Our foodservice professionals are here before the sun comes up preparing nutritious breakfasts for the students.  Throughout the day, they work to prepare meals not only for students at Oscar J. Pope Elementary but also for Bill Duncan Opportunity Center.  Our foodservice professionals are the cream of the crop!
