Celebrate Literacy Week
January 26-29 is Florida's "Celebrate Literacy Week". We recognize the outstanding literacy accomplishments of our OJP Stallions not just this week but all year long. Our students strive to be "on or above step" with our Action 100 supplemental reading program. Our students have read 6,825.927 words in the Accelerated Reader program, and several students have made it on the "AR Athletes" recognition board in the dining room.
We encourage all students and staff members to wear a red shirt on Friday, January 29, 2016, to help promote literacy week!
Report Card Conference and Family Dinner Night
Join us on Thursday, February 4, 2016, from 3:30 to 6:00 P.M. for our report card conference and family dinner night! Teachers will host conferences in classrooms, and dinner will be available in the dining room from 3:30 to 5:30 P.M. Each dinner consists of one hot dog, one bag of chips, and one drink for $1.00! Why worry about cooking and cleaning when the staff at OJP can do it for you tonight?
Staff members will be available in the dining room at our information booth. Information related to upcoming assessments, SuccessMaker, tutoring, Title One, Action 100, and Accelerated Reader programs will be available!

Get Involved at Oscar J. Pope Elementary School
There are many ways you can get involved at Oscar J. Pope Elementary School! We are actively seeking parents and family members to join our PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) to work on special projects such as fundraisers, yearbook, student and staff incentives, and promoting the school in the community. Your membership in the OJP PTO is free!
Another avenue to explore as you get involved is to join the School Advisory Council (SAC). The SAC committee meets once a month, usually on the third Friday at 7:30 A.M. in the Jay W. Erwin Media Center. This committee consists of school staff, parents, and community members. Monthly SAC meetings focus on the good news of OJP and ways we are moving forward to raise student achievement.
Have you considered being a school volunteer? Volunteers help in a multitude of ways such as cutting out laminating for teachers, shelving books in the Jay W. Erwin Media Center, putting up bulletin board displays, assisting on field trips, and mentoring students. If you are interested in being a school volunteer, please get in touch with Mrs. Grier, our school counselor and volunteer coordinator.
One of the fundraisers we participate in each year is Box Tops for Education. General Mills provides ten cents to our school for each box top submitted. Check your child's Wednesday folder regularly for the monthly box tops collection sheet. Please remember to check the expiration date on the box top before submitting. If you need additional box tops collection sheets, we will be glad to provide them to you!
Information about Academic Accelerated Programs in Polk County (ACCEL) can be found at www.polk-fl.net/staff/teachers/acceleratedprograms.htm. Parent/Guardian must contact their child's school to submit a Request for Academic Acceleration form prior to June 11th to request acceleration screening for placement the following school year.
Click here to view Superintendent LeRoy's letter regarding ACCEL.
We have a very limited supply of yearbooks left for sale. If you would like to purchase one, stop by the office during summer business hours. Yearbooks are $10.00. We will accept cash or money order.
