Jay W. Erwin Memorial Garden and Media Center Oscar J. Pope Elementary is a neighborhood school of 430 students. Several factors affect the educational needs of our students. Approximately 80% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch, which is above the district and state averages. Based on the percentage of students on free or reduced lunches, we qualify for Title I funding. Title I funding allows us to have additional teachers and paraprofessionals to work with students who need extra help in reading or mathematics. This funding also allows us to purchase additional books and educational materials for the classrooms. Our students also have a high mobility rate as compared to the district and state, which presents instructional challenges different from schools with stable populations. Our school is unique in that we have a regular education program (K-5) as well as a child training center for many exceptional students. About 40% of our children are in full or part-time Exceptional Student Education programs. We are proud of all of our Oscar J. Pope Elementary Stallions! |
