Principal: Tanya D. Matthews

Tanya D. Matthews has a B. S. in Elementary Education from Bethune-Cookman University, and a M. S. in Educational Leadership from Nova University. She has 18 years teaching experience at the elementary school level. Ms. Matthews served as the Assistant Principal at Elbert Elementary for 3 ½ years. Then she became the principal at Gibbons Street Elementary for 1 ½. She has served as the principal at Padgett Elementary since 2001. During her tenure at Padgett, the school grade has improved from a “C” to an “A”.

Assistant Principal: Walter Smith

Walter Smith was appointed as the Assistant Principal of Padgett Elementary in January 2005. He is state certified in Educational Leadership and Physical Education K-12. He received his Masters degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University and a Bachelors of Science in Physical Education from Bethune-Cookman College. Prior to serving as an Assistant Principal at Padgett Elementary, he was the Assistant Principal at Harrison School of the Arts, Dean of Students at Lake Gibson High School, and a Physical Education teacher at Rosa Belle Blake Elementary, Polk City Elementary, and Berkley Charter School. He has had extensive training in the Success for All Reading and Kagan Cooperative Learning, which he taught Reading to students in K-5. During his time of service at Berkely, Mr. Smith assisted students with reading instruction. As a result, the school continued to make significant gains in Reading. Mr. Smith has been an administrator since 2004.
