Holbrook's Horticulture Corner & Store
As part of the PLLC curriculum, our agriculture teacher Ray Holbrook helps our students learn many useful lessons in plant and animal biology, chemistry, weather, soils and ecology. They also learn practical life experiences such as:
- The responsibility of caring for living things.
- The reward of hard work.
- The satisfaction of having things grow and flourish.
- The understanding of the cycles of life.
- Patience and long term perspective.
Ray Holbrook has grown the agriculture program with a demonstration project of the ecological cycle between plants and animals. Working with the Fish and Wildlife Commission and the University of Florida Research Labs in Ruskin and Port Manatee, the students and he are raising saltwater Red Fish as part of this project. Ray has expanded the different types of plants that the students grow to show them a broad variety of plants so that the students can study the wide range of colors, sizes, shapes, blossoms, fruit, and the habitat the plants provide for animals. The students also work with Aquaponics using hybrid Talapia to help in starting new plants.
The Holbrook Horticulture Store features:
- Trees
- Grasses
- Shrubs
- Flowering Plants
