As students progress through the elementary grades, they encounter a variety of tests. Listed below is a description of the types of school-wide tests that Scott Lake Elementary students participate in:
SAT9 The Stanford Achievement Test is given countywide during the month of March to all first and second grade students. The test measures reading comprehension and mathematics problem solving, and has a multiple choice format. The school receives the test results at the end of the school year, and then forwards those results home to parents with the end of the year report card.
FCAT The Florida Comprehensive Achievement Test covers Writing, Reading, and Mathematics. All third through fifth grade students throughout the state of Florida take the test during the months of February and March. The format for third grade students is strictly multiple choice, whereas fourth and fifth grade tests include open response questions along with multiple choice. The school receives the test results during the months of May and June. The test results that come in before the end of the school year are forwarded to the parents with each student's end of the year report card. Those results that come in during the summer vacation are sent home with students at the beginning of the following school year. The most recent statewide FCAT results can be found at www.firn.edu/doe
Scott Lake Elementary Benchmark Test The Benchmark tests are given to all Scott Lake Elementary students enrolled in grades one through five. These tests cover Reading, Writing and Mathematics, and are administered three times a year. These tests were designed to mirror the FCAT, and the results help teachers to identify how they might need to adjust their instruction to better meet the needs of the students. Because the tests are administered three times a year, the results give teachers and parents an overview of the growth that a student has made over the course of the school year.
