The media center is a place where students are encouraged to come and share their love for books. Many things are being started to get your kids actively reading and learning. Soon you will be able to log on to Sikes Elementary Virtual Media Center to see podcasts of the daily news show as well as hear book reviews
Intermediate Reading Initiatives
The Sunshine State Young Readers Awards is a program for 3rd -5th grade students. After reading the books and taking the AR tests and getting a score of 80% or better, the students have the opportunity to create a podcast or get their name placed on the wall of congratulations.
Primary Reading Initiatives
The Florida Reading Association Children’s Book Awards is a program for K-2nd grade students. These students are encouraged to read the books alone or with their parents. Once complete they may take the AR test and have their name added to the wall of congratulations for test scores 80% or better.

Are you reading a book at home? Are you interested in finding out if there is an AR quiz and how many points it is worth? Use AR Bookguide to find your book. Be sure to write the title, quiz number and point value down so when you get to school you can take the quiz. Happy quizzing!
