Sikes Elementary PTA
Sikes has a very active PTA which plays an integral role in supporting school projects in order to enhance our school program and projects. During the 2006-2007, the PTA raised over $20,000 which was used in part to provide awards and incentives to teachers and students. The PTA also supports instruction by providing each teacher with $125 for classroom supplies. In addition, our parents have provided many volunteer hours, helping with the organization of picture day, yearbooks, fall festival and hosting an annual breakfast for grandparents and fathers. This year the PTA will again provide volunteers for our annual community picnic.

How can I help?
Sikes Elementary PTA would like to offer you an opportunity to become a sponsor and lend a hand in educating our students. We are offering you four options to help make an enhanced learning environment for all children thru PTA sponsored events. Please choose from one of the following opportunities.
Membership
This is on an individual basis.
As a member of the PTA you will work with the teachers, administrators, and the community to ensure a quality education and a true partnership between home and school. If you would like to become a member fill out the short application and pay a $5 membership fee.

Business Partners
Our strongest school program is community involvement which includes the following business partners:
Toppers Pizza, Publix, Wal-Mart, Mosaic, Sonny's, Chic-Fil-A, Beef O' Brady's, Bob Evans, CiCi's Pizza, McDonald's, Dinner Together, area churches, parents, retired school teachers, and retirees.
Volunteer Information
Attention, new volunteers!
Because the security of our students is critical to the district, all volunteer applicants undergo a background check before serving in our schools. In the past, the district has been able to assume the burden of that cost, but recent budget constraints now prevent that. Beginning in 2009-10, first time volunteer applicants will pay a one-time, non-refundable fee of $24 for a Florida Department of Law Enforcement background check. Payment must be in the form of a money order (available for free at WalMart) or a cashier's check (available from your bank) and brought to the school where the application will be submitted. Some criminal charges can prevent applicants from being approved and are listed on the volunteer application, so that individuals can determine if approval is possible.
Volunteer approval is continuous from year to year and is applicable at all Polk County Schools. Payment for background checks does not apply to those who have been approved before 2009-10.
You must be an approved volunteer to go into your child's classroom, chaperone on field trips, and to help out during special events at school.
