Letter from President
I want to welcome all of our parents back to a fun and exciting
year at Southwest Elementary Village. We are very proud of our wonderful
students and teachers for our outstanding "A" grade, and meeting
Academic Yearly Progress (AYP). This shows that the education of your
child is of the utmost importance to our teachers, and to you as
parents. You may ask yourself, "What else can I do to strengthen the
bond between my child and their teacher?" This is where I challenge you,
as a parent, to take the time to actively participate in our wonderful
Parent Teacher Association (PTA). I would like to see 100% parent
involvement in our school. I will honestly say that 3 years ago, when
coming to Southwest, I was like you probably are now, worried about the
commitment of joining PTA. Now, 3 years later, I am President of our
PTA, and working a 40+ hour job. I have normal activities with my two
sons and I am involved in school activities. The time involved in PTA
may be a little or a lot, but, very effective in your child's education.
Did you know that there are more than 85 studies that show a myriad of
benefits resulting when moms and dads get involved in their child's
education? Children have better grades, higher self esteem, higher
graduation rates and better attendance. Better yet, they enjoy greater
success in life overall.Remember, that giving any amount of time to
help your child's school will be helpful, even if you can only help for
an hour a month, that hours' work will be more beneficial than you might
expect. The important thing is to be an active part of your child's
education at home and at school.
The Mission of the PTA
The mission of the PTA is to help parents understand the importance
of their participation in their child's educational experience. The PTA
needs to be viewed not as a fund raising organization but rather an
organization that works at improving education on behalf of all
children. In its effort, the PTA must break down some of the barriers
such as time, language and unwelcome feelings in order to involve
parents who are not actively participating in PTA.
SWE PTA's Pledge:
We pledge to uphold the
mission of the PTA; To support and speak on behalf of children and youth
in the schools, in the community and before government bodies and other
organizations that make decisions affecting children: and
To assist parents in developing the
skills they need to raise and protect their children:
To encourage parent and public
involvement in the public schools of this nation.
SWE PTA's purpose:
· To promote the welfare of children and youth in home, school,
community, and place of worship
· To raise the standards of home life
· To secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and

and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of children
