President's Challenge
All PE students  took part in a battery of tests in November, ’07.  This battery included a one mile run, push ups, curl ups, the shuttle run and the V-sit.  The November scores were used as a starting point for this year and to see what students needed to improve on.

In April of ’08, all PE students retook the same battery of tests.  Those scoring in the top 50% of students nationwide are recognized as National Award Winners.  Those scoring in the top15% nationwide are recognized as Presidential Award Winners.

Union Academy Medalists  
Every year Union Academy students are recognized for the improvement in physical condition. The highest honor is the Gold Medal. Gold medalists have improved on their last year’s scores on all five components of the fitness test – mile run, shuttle run, v-sit, push-ups and sit-ups.
Silver medalists have improved on four of the five tests and Bronze medalists have improved on three of the five. The winners are presented below, by grade level.
