All of the summer reading books are available through the Polk County Library System.  You may access the Polk County Library Cooperative to check to see if the books are available at your local branch or you may request them to be sent to your local branch.  You will need a library card to do this.

Summer Reading Program 2009

Dear Parents and Students,

Summer reading is crucial if students want to maintain their reading skills throughout the long summer break.  Therefore, we would like to encourage pleasure reading for the summer as well as the completion of a summer project to be shared with the Reading Teacher and classmates.  Below you will find the Required Summer Reading Project directions and a list of books students may choose from for this project.  We ask that students seek their parent’s advice and approval as they select a book from the list.

Summer Requirement:

All students are required to read a minimum of three books during the summer.  Parents and students will be given a “Letter of Completion” to be signed and returned to the Reading Teacher along with the titles of the books read.  This letter will be given to the students when they return from the summer break.  In addition to the completion letter, you will have a project that must also be completed prior to your return.  Only one of the three books you selected to read for the summer may be used for the project.

Directions:

Select a fiction chapter book of your choice from the U.A. Summer Reading List.   Please select a book you haven’t read.  Demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the book you read by creating one of the following projects and be ready to present the project to your reading class.
