For 18-week classes (1/2 credit classses), students will be allowed to make-up work missed for the first three (3) absences. On the 6th absence of a semester (4th absence for 18 week courses) and any thereafter, students must bring documentation to the attendance office in order to receive a form allowing them to make-up work. Excused absences include doctor’s notes, funeral notices or court dates. This documentation must be brought to the attendance office before or after school within 2 days of the absence.

DRESS CODE 2008-2009

Dress for Success and Safety

2008-2009  Dress Code Policy

The School Improvement Council, parents, administrators, teachers, and students have set the Dress Code for Winter Haven High School. The Dress Code will be enforced everyday throughout the school year and it is important that parents and students have an understanding that ALL students will have to adhere to the policies.

Shirts and Blouses:
Shirts with sleeves must be worn everyday.  No sleeveless tops can be worn under cover-ups such as other shirts or jackets.  Shirttails must be tucked into the pants or skirts in a manner that the waistband is visible at all times. If a top is not made to be tucked in, it should not be worn.
Any tops that are considered too revealing will not be allowed.  All clothing must be size appropriate to the wearer. Tops, pants, or shorts must neither be oversized or too tight.

Pants, Shorts and Skirts:
Pants/shorts must be worn at the waist and belts must be worn when belt loops exist on the clothing.  No overalls may be worn to school.  All shorts and skirts should be knee length; all shorts and pants must be worn at the waist. No cutoffs. No holes in clothing are allowed.

Hats and Head coverings:
No hats, head coverings, or hooded tops are permitted on campus at anytime of the school day.

Unacceptable Attire:
Students are not allowed to wear jewelry, buttons, haircuts, or other items that are offensive, suggestive or indecent, i.e. Big Johnson T-shirts.

  1. Clothing associated with gangs, drugs, sex, alcohol, tobacco products, and violence or those which support discrimination on the basis of age, color, handicap, national origin, marital status, race, religion, sex or sexual connotation are not permitted.

  2. In order to maximize the safety of students, shoes/boots or sandals with back straps are the only footwear allowed. No shoes with heels of more than 1 inch, flip-flops, or bedroom slippers are permitted. Shoes with laces must be properly tied.

  3. The administration has all rights to deal with any items or situations that are considered disruptive to the educational process.

  4. Clubs and other organizations need administrative approval before school groups can purchase and wear clothing.

Students in violation of the dress code will not be able to attend classes until they meet the Dress Code Policies of Winter Haven High School and Polk County Schools. Parents should monitor their student’s dress daily before they leave home. Doing so could prevent hardships that might develop. The safe learning environment of our campus is a high priority.

Students attending Winter Haven High School will be required to wear a student ID Badge that will have a bar code, Internet permission emblem, and student picture. With the increase in student population and the Master Schedule Construction taking place throughout the entire school year, the safety of the students is a number one priority. Students will be required to have ID badges on a lanyard placed around their neck as soon as they step on campus. Students who do not have their identification around their neck will not be allowed to attend classes. The ID picture will be taken by our Media Center at a cost of $5.00. If an ID is lost, it must be replaced. It will be extremely important for parents and students to comply with this policy. ID’s are used for checking out materials from the Media Center, purchasing food in the cafeteria, discounts to student activities, and the picture ID will be required to be on campus.
